Abstract:
The effects of appearance attractiveness on labor market outcomes have received rising attention over the recent period. Many previous studies in a variety of countries have found that good-looking employees earn more benefits in employment which might be explained by higher productivity or discrimination. This study note contributes a new micro-econometric proof from the data set surveyed in Viet Nam, which has never been conducted before, including information on physical attractiveness assessments by the respondents as well as the reviewers. In addition to using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) model to measure appearance attractiveness impact on wages, this research analyses the impact not only on job-finding time and wage raise by employing the Tobit model but also on promotion by applying the Negative Binominal model. Research results show that appearance affects the labor market outcomes, however, these effects differ among specific characteristics of physically attractive appearance.
