Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to estimate the effects of variables including household characteristics, household access to services and social policies on poverty transition of rural households in Vietnam. By using the panel data of 12 provinces in the period of 2012-2014 and applying multinomial logit model, the results show that all four household characteristics considered in this study including low years of school attainment, female-headed, ethnic minority and dependency burden will be associated with higher poverty rate whereas availability of services and social policies have positive effects in moving out of poverty. By identifying the properties that are accompanied with poor households, the finding suggests that anti-poverty interventions should focus on investment in education and improvement in in basic and essential infrastructure.
